In an alternate reality pandemic, ANDREW GOES OUTSIDE to find answers about the world he’s been locked away from, asking help from his livestream viewers along the way.

NARRATIVE DESIGN

  • Durational story progressing over two months of an alternate reality mirroring the same timeline as the viewers’ reality

  • Pre-planned story arc with flexible pathways allows viewers to feel fully in control of the story

  • Between-episode plot adjustments respond to whatever the viewers show the most interest in each week

INTERACTION DESIGN

  • Tiered interaction strategy allows people to interact at whatever level is comfortable for them, but rewards more interaction

  • Cross-platform engagement included livestream episodes, emails, text messages, and social media posts

TECHNICAL DESIGN

  • Bespoke livestream platform designed for real-time engagement supporting latency of <250ms (typical stream latency is 1+seconds)

  • Opt-in “operators” with push-to-talk gives viewers control over when and how they talk to Andrew

  • Livestreams captured & edited within 2-3 days of streams so that viewers could catch anything they missed
