At D. CENTRE, we want to know: how do you rebel? What if it’s the same way every other rebel rebels?
At the start of this experience, one participant is chosen from the group to undergo a radicalization of their concept of rebellion, while the rest of the group “rebels” by doing arts and crafts.
EXPERIENCE DESIGN - SOLO
Escalating interaction phases ask the “rebel” to rebel by defying authority, defying the majority, then using violence against an enemy
Labyrinth-style set construction separates each of the rebel’s tasks
Digital puppet 1-on-1 at climax of experience gives solo participants an individualized performance criticizing their chosen forms of rebellion
EXPERIENCE DESIGN - GROUP
Information dissymmetry around the concept of rebellion - the group is told that the only appropriate form of rebellion is creating art
Group arts and crafts provided in the form of making a potato avatar and decorating it so it can show its “self expression”
Video of solo participant with no audio allows facilitator to add faulty commentary and context to the individual’s actions in the next room and demonize their actions
The experience culminates with the solo participant returning to the group room, where their actions determine the outcome of the show: does artistic self-expression as rebellion win out, or has the rebel concluded that violence is the only option?
